Welcome home away from home!
At St. Matthew’s Church, we welcome you just as you are. Regardless of your age, creed or nationality, no matter how you choose to live your life, our door is always open. Come and say hello, meet new people, pause for a moment and connect with God. Or if you’d prefer, you could grab a coffee, play football or make some music.
Kristian Willis has pastored St. Matthew's International Lutheran Church in Itäkeskus since the autumn of 2019. He has a vision for a people-centred community that embraces diversity and creates a safe place for people to explore their spirituality.
”At St. Matthew's, what matters to us are the things that unite us and bring us together. People from all sorts of different religious backgrounds come here. Many of them don’t even know what their affiliation is. What we practice here is everyday ecumenism.”
Everything we do at the St. Matthew's International Lutheran Church is shaped by the wishes, ideas, gifts and vision of the people who have come here from elsewhere.
The Lutheran Church in Helsinki also offers services in Arabic, Chinese, Estonian and Russian. We believe that all people need not just a social network but also a spiritual community to sustain them. Our diversity is not just limited to language – the more international we are, the more we have to offer and the more enriched we become.
St. Matthew's International Lutheran Church has its own website at stmatthewshelsinki.com.
