Pihlajamäki church

03.04.2017, 16:15
The plain suburban church completed in 1976 is notable for its altar relief, which was met with controversy.

The Pihlajamäki church was completed in 1976. The plain but multifunctional three-storey church building was designed by architect, Esko Korhonen. The altar wall has a large wood relief, Kristuksen kärsimykset (Suffering of Christ), by sculptor, Tapio Junno. The wedding rug was designed by Pirjo Koivisto.

The mechanical church organ was made by organ builder, Tuomi in 1977. The instrument has 20 stops and two keyboards.

The Pihlajamäki church is used by the Malmi parish.

Celebrations at the church

Members of the church can organise a baptism, a wedding or a funeral free of charge in the church.

The church seats 250, or 500 when combined with the parish meeting hall. There are 70 seats at the tables in the parish meeting hall. The kitchen with its tableware is available for party organisers.
