Ylöspäin

Antiikin aikana roomalaiset rakensivat valtavia tieverkostoja maansa keskukseen. Historiallinen Rooman valtakunta luhistui ja tieverkostot kehittyivät ajan saatossa muihinkin mielenkiintoisiin kohteisiin. Kaikki tiet vievät Roomaan on silti vielä monille tuttu sanonta. Nykyisin sanonnalla tarkoitetaan myös yhtä ja samaa lopputulosta, vaikka valinnat päämäärän saavuttamiseksi olisivat olleet erilaisia.

Mitenköhän paljon Jeesus taittoi matkaa aikalaistensa, valloittajien, rakentamia teitä pitkin. Vai kulkiko hän kylästä toiseen hyödyntäen kansansa tallaamia tuttuja kinttupolkuja. Vapahtajamme neuvoi omilleen tärkeimmän tien. Hän sanoi: »Minä olen tie, totuus ja elämä. Ei kukaan pääse Isän luo muuten kuin minun kauttani. Jos te tunnette minut, opitte tuntemaan myös minun Isäni. Te tunnette hänet jo nyt, olettehan nähneet hänet.» Joh. 14:6–7.

Taakse jäänyt elämä on kuin kuljettu tie. Nykyisyydessä voimme olla kiitollisia tai murheellisia siitä pysäkistä, johon olemme elämän matkalla valintojemme kautta päätyneet. Mitä tulevaisuus tuo tullessaan. Jeesuksen seurassa on jäljellä vain yksi selkeä tie tai suunta, ”ylöspäin”.

Missä liikutkin kesällä ylösnousseen todistajana, pidä yhteyttä Jumalaan ja toisiin ihmisiin itsestäsi huolehtien.

Syksyllä kirkkovuoden lopulla vietetään pyhäpäivää nimeltä ”Valvomisen sunnuntai”. Tämä päivä voisi olla yhtä hyvin kesänkin teemana. Huomaan valoisina suviöinä, etten malttaisi nukkua, vaan tahtoisin kukkua, päivärytmini sekoittaen. Valon ja hämärän maastossa valvomista on monenlaista. Hyvää hereillä oloa on muistaa, kuinka kuoleman kukistanut ja elämän meille voittanut Vapahtaja kutsuu koko ajan seuraansa. Aina emme vain malta kuunnella hänen ääntään.

Missä liikutkin kesällä ylösnousseen todistajana, pidä yhteyttä Jumalaan ja toisiin ihmisiin itsestäsi huolehtien. Sanan ja sakramenttien hoivassa on onnellista olla.

Kirkkomme seurakuntakeskuksen uudisrakentaminen on vahvasti suunnittelussa. Tänä kesänä kirkkomme on vielä käytössämme. Tervetuloa siis kirkollemme, ennen remonttia, ja muuallekin mukaviin tapaamisiin. Kesäesitteemme sisältää tapahtumatietojen lisäksi yhteystietomme.

Kesäesitteen kannessa näkyvät kiskot. Kannelmäen seurakunnan alueella ei vielä liikuta raitiovaunulla. Mutta junalla, ”apostolin kyydillä” kävellen, fillarilla tai muulla menopelillä, taival taittuu täällä mallikkaasti, parhaassa seurassa.

Upwards

During ancient times, the Romans built vast road networks, leading to the center of their empire. The historical Roman Empire collapsed, and over time, the road networks evolved to reach other interesting destinations. "All roads lead to Rome" is still a familiar saying to many. Nowadays, the saying also refers to one and the same outcome, even if the choices to reach the goal would be different.

I wonder how much Jesus traveled along the roads built by his contemporaries, the conquerors. Or did he travel from village to village, using the familiar footpaths trodden by his people? Our Savior advised His own about the most important path. He said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really know Me, you will know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him." John 14:6–7.

Life left behind is like a traveled road. In the present, we can be grateful or sorrowful for the stop where we've ended up on life's journey through our choices. What does the future hold? In the company of Jesus, there remains only one clear path or direction, "upwards".

Wherever you go this summer as a witness of the resurrection, stay connected to God and to others, and also take care of yourself.

In the fall, towards the end of the church year, we observe a holy day called "Vigilance Sunday." This day could just as well be the theme of the summer. I notice on bright summer nights that I can hardly sleep; I would rather stay up late, which disrupts my daily rhythm. In the realm of light and twilight, vigilance takes many forms. Good wakefulness is to remember how the Savior, who defeated death and won life for us, continuously calls us to follow Him. We sometimes just cannot listen to His voice.

Wherever you go this summer as a witness of the resurrection, stay connected to God and to others, and also take care of yourself. Being in the care of the Word and sacraments brings happiness.

The reconstruction of our parish center is strongly in the planning stages. This summer, our church is still available for use. So welcome to our church before the renovation and elsewhere for pleasant meetings. In addition to information about the events, our summer brochure contains our contact details.

The tracks are visible on the cover of the summer brochure. There are no trams yet in the area of Kannelmäki Parish. But by train, walking, cycling, or using any other means of transport, the journey here proceeds smoothly, in excellent company.
