Kastettava lapsi saa kastetodistuksen kanssa kastepuukortin. Kortissa kerrotaan, että kotiseurakunta on hänen kasteensa kunniaksi hankkinut puuntaimen, jonka Suomen Lähetysseura istuttaa.

Jokaisesta kortista seurakunta lahjoittaa 10 euroa Lähetysseuran ympäristötyöhön, jonka tavoitteena on tukea kehitysmaiden köyhimpiä löytämään keinoja selviytyä ilmastonmuutoksessa.

Kuivuus ja äärimmäiset sääolosuhteet vievät perheiltä mahdollisuuksia toimeentuloon, ravintoon ja puhtaaseen veteen. Lähetysseuran tuella muun muassa rakennetaan vesipisteitä, turvataan ruoan saantia, valmistetaan puuta säästäviä liesiä sekä annetaan monenlaista koulutusta siitä, miten ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutuksiin ja luonnonkatastrofeihin voi varautua. Ja tietysti istutetaan puita.

Kastepuukortti antaa kastetulle ja hänen perheelleen viestin siitä, että lapsi on lämpimästi tervetullut seurakuntaperheeseen. Samalla se kertoo konkreettisesti siitä luomakunnan varjelemisesta, johon jokainen kristitty on kutsuttu.

Yhteisenä kutsumuksenamme on pitää tämä maailma elinkelpoisena uudelle sukupolvelle niin, että kun he aikanaan saavat lapsia, maailma olisi vielä silloinkin hyvä paikka elää.

Beginning from Advent 2021, the Kannelmäki parish, in cooperation with the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission, will take up its own tree seedling for all children to be baptized. The Mission will plant seedlings in Tanzania or Nepal.

With the certificate, the child being baptized receives a baptism card. The card states that the local parish has acquired a tree seedling in honor of the baptized child, which will be planted by the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission.

For each card, the parish donates 10 euros to the environmental work of the Mission, which aims to support the poorest in developing countries to find ways to cope with climate change.

Drought and extreme weather conditions deprive families of opportunities for livelihoods, nutrition and clean water. With the support of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission, among other things, water points will be built, food supply will be secured, wood-saving stoves will be built, and a wide range of training will be provided in how to prepare for the effects of climate change and natural disasters. And of course, trees will be planted.

The baptism card gives a message to the baptized person and his or her family that the child is warmly welcomed to the parish family. At the same time, it speaks concretely of the protection of creation, which every Christian is called to do.

Our common calling is to keep this world viable for the new generation so that when they have children in their time, even then the world would still be a good place to live in.
