Did you know that most churches in Helsinki offer lunch or evening meals that everyone is welcome to enjoy? You can come alone, with your family, friends, acquaintances, or fellow students, whatever suits you best! Don’t be shy if you are on your own; you are sure to meet people and have company during the meal. The prices are very affordable; some meals are even completely free of charge. Food is prepared by staff and volunteers alike.

Waste&Feast restaurants and cafés (page available in Finnish only) make use of excess food items that are in the risk of becoming waste. The restaurants also employ youth that are finding their place in the workforce. This way you get to have a delicious meal at a low cost while doing something good for the environment and other people. An excellent concept, don’t you think?

When we say everyone is welcome, we truly mean it. You do not need to be a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church to enjoy these meals. Nobody will ask about your religion or your financial situation, either.

The list below shows the next 15 meals and cafés in chronological order. Most of the events are displayed Finnish, but you do not need to speak the language to be able to attend. This list is only here to guide you and to help you view the time and place of each meal.

The list also includes food distribution times and locations. The Myllypuro grocery distribution is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 10 pm at Jauhokuja 3, at the end of Liikuntamylly sports centre.
